National Children's Book Week: Classics

Hello and welcome back to my NCBW (National Children's Book Week) tribute. Today, we're doing "Classics".  (Because I'm a girl, my choices for this post are rather girly!)  O.K., well here goes...

5. Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield

Though it has a girly name, one of the main characters is a tomboy. It is also about theatre and engineering as well as ballet!!!

4. The Borrowers by Mary Norton

This is a great book about little people who "borrow" things- hence the name "borrowers". (There is a film as well, but the book is quite different)

3. The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit

Lovely, heart-warming story about a family of children living by a railway line. (This has also been a film, with many versions)

2. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

This is a fabulous story about an American family of girls- Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. (Also a film!!!) There are actually three more books that go after this one- Good Wives, Little Men and Jo's Boys (in that order)

And, in first place is....
1. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery

This is the probably one of the best books ever written!!! In a way, this book is quite similar to one I'm going to mention later on this week, Pippi Longstocking. Absolutely hilarious in some places, and then tear-jerkingly sad in some places.
And that concludes today's segment on classics. Come back tomorrow for more of my favourite books!!
