National Children's Book Week: Classics

Hello and welcome back to my NCBW (National Children's Book Week) tribute. Today, we're doing "Classics".  (Because I'm a girl, my choices for this post are rather girly!)  O.K., well here goes...

5. Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield

Though it has a girly name, one of the main characters is a tomboy. It is also about theatre and engineering as well as ballet!!!

4. The Borrowers by Mary Norton

This is a great book about little people who "borrow" things- hence the name "borrowers". (There is a film as well, but the book is quite different)

3. The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit

Lovely, heart-warming story about a family of children living by a railway line. (This has also been a film, with many versions)

2. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

This is a fabulous story about an American family of girls- Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. (Also a film!!!) There are actually three more books that go after this one- Good Wives, Little Men and Jo's Boys (in that order)

And, in first place is....
1. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery

This is the probably one of the best books ever written!!! In a way, this book is quite similar to one I'm going to mention later on this week, Pippi Longstocking. Absolutely hilarious in some places, and then tear-jerkingly sad in some places.
And that concludes today's segment on classics. Come back tomorrow for more of my favourite books!!

National Children's Book Week: Picture Books

O.K., so this week is National Children's Book Week. And over this week, I'm going to list my all-time favourite books!!!
First up, it's picture books....

5. Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney (illustrated by Anita Jeram)

A lovely touching story about a baby rabbit talking to his mum about just  how much he loves her!

4. Varmints by Helen Ward (illustrated by Marc Craste)

A beautiful story about how humans are ruining our world. (It was shortlisted for the CILIP Kate Greenway  Award in 2009)

3. The English Roses by Madonna (illustrated by Jeffrey Fulvimari)

Charming story about true friendship. Actually a series of five books!
(This one has lots of writing, but I'm still classing it as a picture book)

2. Charlie and Lola by Lauren Child

A collection of books about Charlie and his little six-year-old sister, Lola. Darling illustrations and quite funny stories.
(I love all Lauren Child's books really. More books by her are Clarice Bean, Hubert Horatio Bartle Bobton Trent, That Pesky Rat. You can check out her website)

And finally, drawn for first, it's....
1. Beegu by Alexis Deacon and  Eloise by Kay Thompson (illustrated by Hilary Knight)

Short book about how a little alien lands on Earth, and while she is there, she learns that love can come from even the smallest of people.
Also, it's so cute!! Very good illustrations and and a simple heartfelt storyline!!

A book about six-year-old girl Eloise, and her life in the 50's Plaza in New York.
(This book is for adults really, and again,  has lots of writing, but I'm classing it as a picture book.)

Come back later this week for more of my favorite books!

Random

O.K., so I have an obsession with randomness so I typed into google images:
Random
And this is what it came up with:
Chuck Norris? Who is he? *types* Ahah! He is..
Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris (born March 10, 1940) is an American martial artist and actor. After serving in the United States Air Force, he began his rise to fame as a martial artist and has since founded his own school, Chun Kuk Do.
Oh. Well that's BORING.
I wonder why he was labelled as "Random".
Anyway, my other favourite word is "Lexicography" (It actually means "the writing, editing, or compiling of dictionaries or the principles and procedures involved in writing, editing, or compiling dictionaries." I only like it 'coz it sounds cool!!) So guess what google images throws at me this time:
I'm sorry, WHAT????? That doesn't even look like ANYTHING, let alone anything to do with lexicography!!!
Please, please comment and tell me a reason why these to pictures were there. I need to know. I NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!!

Hi!

HI! First of all I would just like to say a big thank you for reading my blog, so here goes:
THANK YOU!!!!!
There. O.K., now I can get on with what I really want to say.
I already have one blog, about a ninja bunny (you can read it here) and I love love doing that, but I just really wanted a blog where I could talk about anything. So I decided to start this. The reason I called it "Talking to Myself" was because I expect that I will be the only one reading this. (Apart from you, obviously!) I will talk about anything and I will try and post everyday. Please, feel free to comment!!
Post ya later!
